River Parthe
It's actually a pretty little river except where it comes through the city. Recently the bed was relaid so that it flows within its (new) winding bed. Before it used to regularily flood the sides and the leftover silt allowed nature an upper hand.

helicoptor to the rescue
We see these buzzing about in the sky but don't think to much about the reason. The ADAC is actually there to help broken-down car drivers but have a contract to bring medical aid to people in an emergency. This one landed on a small patch of unbuilt land by the street.

old courtyard
This courtyard in the city centre is part of a group of very old buildings. They have not been sanitised beyond belief and so retain an interesting atmosphere that allows one to imagine medieval times. The flower shop in the righthand corner is allowed to expand into the yard and there is a small bar just out of view. They also have a wonderful vaulted cellar that they use for special displays.
I'll photo the entrance to the yard another time.

is this passenger friendly?
NO!
At night you can't see where you are and have to rely on the electronic indicator to know when to get off!
To earn revenue our local tram co (LVB) plasters the tram with adverts. Because they speculated (Cross-Border-Leasing) and lost, and in general have absurd illusions of their world-wide role our fares have risen ahead of inflation and as you can see the passenger is regarded as a nuisance to be tolerated.
With thanks to Wroclaw Daily Photo.

another park
This is one we regularily walk through, I think it's called the "peace park" which is nice. But if you visit before 10 am you have to look out for the "tic-tac" brigade. These are serious nordic walkers with headbands, special trousers and those awful walking sticks -tic-tac-tic-tac. They would mow you down without hesitation! The joggers come later and look more relaxed.

old and new
The university courtyard is becoming a very pleasant modern open space in the city centre. The old entrance is being incorporated as well.

gewandhaus mural
During the interval at concerts we all wander around outside the auditorium and admire this mural. It's only possible to see it all at once from out in the square and at night.

storks
We don't have very many but they are regular summer guests. This pair are up on a chimney that once was used to heat a garden nursery in LĂĽtzschena, near Leipzig

sunday walk
I should like to thank the many people who have commented in the past on this blog. I didn't realise until a fellow blogger from Seattle mentioned it, that my comments were being blocked. It's been fun to read them all.

The Court
For many years after the war this building was not used as a court but as the home of the Art Gallery under the name of possibly its most famous defendant, Georgi Dimitroff, who was accused of laying the fire in the Reichstag in Berlin but was able to turn the tables on his Nazi opponents.
Now it a Federal Court. In the foreground is the River Pleisse which has recently been restored to daylight again after many years as a covered sewer.

Gottfried Leibnitz
Although he was born here and graduated at our university before he was 20 he moved away because older students rejected his wish to continue studying here. Now his statue stands in the new courtyard.

summers here at last
Right in the centre of town is the Rosenthal, a very large, apparently natural space, but no roses and not much valley.
